Naples Makeup Artist Reviews Skincare: DO EXPENSIVE PRODUCTS WORK??
First Of All, I want to congratulate our winner of the Bobbi Brown Foundation!! I will be doing more contest giveaways shortly so stay tuned for more! :). As a Naples makeup artist, I am always approached with this question, "I am on a budget, how can I get top of the line products for my skin and still get results? Do high end skin care products really compare to CVS/drugstore brand or am I paying for a package?"
My answer is simple, RESEARCH YOUR INGREDIENTS! Depending on your skin type, drugstore brand may be just fine for you (oily, acne, normal). With these types of skin, a simple, non-fragrance cleanser will do the trick. Make sure when looking at high-end vs. drug store that you are careful to avoid cheap oils. Some oils can be good for your skin, but drugstore brand uses cheap ingredients that can irritate and harm the skin. Believe it or not there are different kinds of oils! Good and Bad! "Good" oils can seap into the skin hydrating and healing it, while bad oils simply lay on top of the skin irritating it and causing redness! Try Oil of Olay foaming face wash in the black and white bottle, soap & oil free and works great! If you have more serious issues with acne, a low budget but high end skincare line that works wonders is Mario Badesco. The cleansers, toners, moisturizers and drying lotion will heal your skin and prevent future breakouts.
For more mature skin, as I mentioned before it helps a lot to research your ingredients. For example, Garnier Nutrisse has a commercial out that claims to reduce wrinkles by 30%. That is nothing when you consider that lines such as Dior, Osmotics, Elemis & Chanel have patented products that reduce lines up to 80% and are proven to do so if you stick to the regiman! One of my favorite products for older skin is Osmotics Creaseless, Eye Surgery and Blue Copper. Developed by Francine porter, a skin GURU, this line is absolutely amazing. Ask anyone that's used it and they will tell you the results they've gotten. Chanel also is wonderful. They research their skin care products for 10 YEARS before putting them on the shelves. So again, think before you buy ;).
If you have any questions feel free to email me :). I love helping people feel beautiful on the inside and out!

Naples Makeup Artist Reviews Basic Do's & Dont's of Skincare!!
Let's face it, we ALL get breakouts, dry spots, wrinkles, no one has perfect skin! Not even celebrities (as much as they like to hide it)! Inevitably these flaws are still going to pop out every once in a while, but there are a few simple, basic steps that every man/woman can take to make sure they don't get out of control.
BREAKOUTS:
The absolute number one thing to remember when it comes to acne prone skin is to wash your face every night before bed!! Ideally, you want to wash it morning and night, but if you only have time to wash it once, do it at NIGHT! Throughout the day harsh pollutants and bacteria come into contact with our skin, makeup is also harmful. At night when we sleep our body heals itself from the day, including the skin. Washing all of the harmful radicals off at night aids your body in the healing of your skin. Sleeping in makeup can cause terrible breakouts and even causes women to wrinkle faster! Secondly, you should exfoliate about 3 times a week to give your skin a nice glow and eliminate all of the dead skin cells that can also lead to clogged pores. Finally, masks are a woman's best friend. They resurface skin, draw out dirt, oil and makeup, and can hydrate if you so choose. If you have clogged pores then a mask is your best friend (only use about 1-2 times per week).
WRINKLES:
Stay out of the sun!!! The best anti-aging technique is sunblock, I promise you! If you feel ugly without a tan like many women do, get a spray tan or use bronzer. Tanning beds are the worst catalyst for premature aging. Also, Make sure you keep your stress levels to a minimum. As a Naples Makeup Artist, I can get pretty stressed because of all the activity around here. I always make sure to give myself at least 5 minutes/day to relax and just breathe, letting all of my stress disappear. Stress can cause aging and deep set wrinkles.
DRY SPOTS:
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!! Do not be too harsh on your skin, but if you have a peeling area or your skin in general is dry, exfoliate, tone and then moisturize with some type of emollient moisturizer, which draws moisture to the skin. A great one is Clinique's Moisture surge, it delivers moisture throughout the entire day to your skin, it's oil free and is in gel form so goes on very smooth! It's by far one of my favorites.
If you have any questions on skin care or makeup, feel free to email me :). I'm always happy to answer people's beauty needs!

Naples Makeup Artist Reviews NYC makeup: Foundation & Powder
As a Naples Makeup Artist I often get asked the question, "There are so many makeup lines and skincare products, how do I possibly choose what's right for me?!" Even I still struggle with what products to use and am constantly trying new things. My newest discovery is for women on a budget but still want something matte for pictures/oily skin, etc.
NYC has awesome foundations and powders that are perfect for pictures! And guess what?! They're only $2!!!! I do not recommend this product for women with sensitive skin, but if you're looking for a quick fix for pictures and something matte, NYC is the way to go! Their color line is also very pretty, however the pigments are not quite as strong as say a MAC, HIP or Dior shadow.
If you have any questions feel free to email me!

Naples Makeup Artist Reveals Chanel Skincare secrets
Normally I go for the foaming cleansers like Olay or MAC green gel cleanser, but lately because of the winter weather change (although I live in Naples) and the air becoming dryer, I've found that my skin is starting to peel and become more dry. Being a Naples Makeup Artist I have access to many products and know a lot of skin care reps. My friend Antoinnette from Chanel suggested that I try their Precision micro beaded cleanser.
Not only is this cleanser hydrating and a pollution preventive, it also is oil and fragrance free. The soothing botanicals smooth and hydrate skin and the micro beads are gentle enough to use daily! It exfoliates and conditions skin at the same time.
The lotion of the line is PACKED with vitamins and minerals to give your skin all of the health it needs and all of the nutrients it's lacking. I highly recommend this product for women/men who are prone to breakouts but need a little moisture. Even if you're oily it's always good to moisturize. The more you dry out your skin, the more oil you'll produce ;).
If you have any questions feel free to email me! I would be happy to help you with your beauty needs :).

Naples Makeup Artist Recaps Wedding Event: Outside wedding makeup
As a Naples Makeup Artist I get A LOT of wedding business! Living in Southwest Florida is beautiful and so many women love getting married here :). Today I'm going to discuss the fundamentals for wedding makeup and some tricks on a beach or outdoor wedding that will keep your makeup looking flawless!
TIP #1:
My first and best kept secret is for foundation, since that seems to be the biggest problem among outside weddings. A GREAT trick is keeping your foundation in the fridge before your wedding, (whichever foundation you choose) the cold makes it stay longer/better, and the coolness on your skin feels great and also calms redness! Apply with a brush or sponge and blend making sure it's not "cakey."
TIP #2:
Finishing powder is a must! Try MAC mineralized finishing powder, it definitely helps the staying powder of your foundation, bronzer & blush. Apply this powder after your face makeup is complete.
TIP #3:
Highlighting powder works great for weddings. It gives the bride a nice glow and makes her look extremely elegant. Just apply it right along the cheek bone and up into the temples, LIGHTLY and see how when you turn in the light it gives a great glow and shimmer!
TIP #4:
Gel liner and Waterproof mascara are a must. Any other type of mascara or liner will run either from the heat outside or the tears of joy from becoming a new bride!
All of these tips are easy to follow, just make sure that you get the right products or have the right makeup artist doing your makeup. If you follow these simple guidelines you will already be ahead of most brides ;). If you have any questions feel free to email me or contact me on facebook or twitter!

Naples Makeup Artist Compares Eye Liners: Gel, Liquid & Pencils
There are many specific reasons why certain liners should be worn while others are not appropriate. All three types come in handy for different occasions. Being a Naples makeup artist I am asked constantly which liner is better to use, which one's easiest, etc. The following details a list of advantages and disadvantages of each type of liner:
Advantages
GEL
Advantages
- Easy to use
- Doesn't smudge
- virtually water/sweat proof
- makes a clean, crisp line
- Great for everyday wear
Disadvantages
Advantages
Advantages
- Cannot smudge for smokey look
- Can't use in waterline
- Too harsh for under eye line
Advantages
- Easier to use for some people
- Comes in great colors
- Quick
- Crusts up throughout the day
- messy
- No crisp line
- Not waterproof
Advantages
- Great for Smokey Eye
- Can be used for waterline
- Smudges well under eye
- No Bold colors
- runs throughout the day
- Drags eye (more harsh)
Gel is by far my favorite eye liner because it gets the job done and lasts all day. When you first put it on it dries instantly so will not be messy. MAC as well as Bobbi Brown make wonderful gel eye liners with appropriate brushes for application. If you have any questions feel free to email me :).

Naples Makeup Artist Talks on How to do Makeup: Expensive makeup vs. CVS?
As a Naples makeup artist I get asked all of the time, "Isn't the cheap stuff just the same as the expensive? I keep hearing that in department stores you're just paying for the packaging!"
Well, for some products this is absolutely true. Mostly when it comes to the colored makeup (shadows, lipsticks, etc.) this is definitely true. Although some expensive lines have more pigments in their colors, drug store color can work just as well. There are some new shadows that HIP and NYC just came out with that are absolutely amazing!
HOWEVER, when it comes to skin care, foundations, bronzers, powders, etc. it ABSOLUTELY is better to go for the more expensive brand. For example, I'm sure you've all seen Garnier commercials that tell you with their new anti-wrinkle line they can get rid of 30% of your wrinkles! That's NOTHING! With proper diet and natural exfoliation you can get rid of 30% on your own... What really works are products like ELEMIS and DIOR that get rid of 80% of lines over time AND resurface the skin for more permanent affect!
Bronzers are often orangy and break easily when they are drug store ones, where as higher end ones are more of a bronze and look more natural on the skin! Same goes for foundations.
Ingredients are key when it comes to cheap vs. more expensive. In the end what price can you really put on your skin? If you have any questions feel free to email me, I love helping people and answering questions :).

Naples Makeup Artist Discusses Lash Growth: Less expensive alternative to Lash growth!!
One of the most amazing products that everyone is talking about is Latisse. Latisse is a product (available through your doctor or plastic surgeon) that grows length and thickens your lashes! As a Naples makeup artist I am aware of all the new and hip products on the market, and my clients trust me to give them a true testimony.
Latisse is an AMAZING product that does work! I have many friends/clients that tried it, loved it and continue to use it. However, Latisse can be expensive for the average consumer and has an interesting side effect: dying your lids a shade of gray. Will this happen to everyone? Of course not! But, it's something to consider. A Naples makeup artist should know about every product that WORKS, regardless of price and hype.
A GREAT alternative to expensive lash growers is LANCOME's brand NEW vibrating primer. Technically it's not "meant" to grow your lashes, but the primer contains all of the ingredients (in smaller doses) that grows and thicken lashes. After using this primer I have discovered longer lashes on their own, not just from wearing mascara! Although, if you do partner this with mascara your lashes will look much longer instantly!
Try it! Ask your local makeup artist or email me and I'd be happy to answer any questions about this product, any makeup or skin care!

Naples Makeup Artist Talks on Skin Care: Clarisonic
When it comes to skin care products I have tried EVERYTHING. As a Naples Makeup Artist I get offered samples of tons of products in order to write reviews and tell my clients about certain companies that make the best skin care. Recently I tried the Clarisonic Skin Care System for five days straight. The product claims to clean your skin 6 times better than normal cleansing. The bristles move at 300 times as fast as normal cleansing and have circular motions that cleanse deeply within your pores, removing months of dirt and build up.
Over the Past five days I have noticed a significant difference in the smoothness and texture of my skin. Not only does my skin feel amazingly clean after I use it, but I also notice smoothness and and a beautiful glow. The Clarisonic removes dead skin cells so there is no need to use exfoliating cleansers with it. Simply apply your favorite cleanser on your skin and to the brush, press the button and slowly glide over your skin as if you were washing your face with an electric toothbrush! I recommend this product to anyone that cares about their skin ;)!
Feel free to email me with any questions, I love answering your questions :).

Naples Makeup Artist Talks About Eye Makeup: Matching Your Eye Color
The trick to eye makeup is getting the right shades of shadow for your eye color. Being a Naples makeup artist I constantly get asked whether you should match your shadow to what you're wearing that day, which is a good thing to do, however when it comes to every day makeup matching your clothes is not the best tactic. The key to applying correct eye makeup is coordinating the colors with your eye color. Here is a list of colors that work well with the following eye colors:
1. Brown - Blue and Green shadows work well to make brown eyes POP! Gold can also intensify the yellow/gold tint in a brown eye
2. Blue - Shades of brown and darker grays are the best color for a blue eye. They intensify the blue/teal pigments.
3. Green - Same rules apply for green as for blue, however I would experiment with golds on a green eye as they compliment green beautifully!
4. Hazel - Lucky people with Hazel eyes can wear all different kinds of colors, depending on which shade they are trying to intensify.
The concept is simple once you get it down pat :)! This does NOT mean that you can't wear the other colors recommended for different eye colors, it only means that these colors are what make the color stand out the most. If you have any questions feel free to email me!

Naples Makeup Artist Discusses 3 Lab skin care - CELEBRITY SECRET!
As a Naples makeup artist I get asked constantly about proper skin care and what a good line is to use. There are many great skin care lines (Elemis, Osmotics, Advanced Tech). All of these skin care lines use high end ingredients but cost more than the average drug store product. Drug store products CAN WORK, however you're not going to get the same results. Some of my clients even go as far as La Prairie which is extremely expensive and is a gamble as to whether it works or not!
The line that a lot of celebrities are using now a days is called 3 lab! 3 Lab is great for all different skin types, whether you're young and having oil and acne problems, to being middle aged and older worrying about wrinkles and dry skin. Although expensive, the product really does work and I have several clients that have given great testimonials about it!
A fellow Naples makeup artist has been using it for years and she said it saved her skin! Women in their 60's and 70's use it and always tell me how they have noticed a severe reduction in the number of wrinkles! Go to any Nordstrom and sample some before actually buying it and see the results for yourself!

Naples Makeup Artist Talks on Face Makeup for Pictures: (Weddings, Prom, Photo shoots, etc.)
There is one specific rule that is applied when it comes to photography of any kind, (unless you are going for a certain type of look) and that is STAY MATTE! I know I have mentioned this before in my prom makeup blog but I want to reiterate some tricks and tips that can make this happen! As a Naples makeup artist I get asked all the time about photography foundation and what is good to use :).
One major tip is to watch what kind of primer you apply to your skin before your foundation. Although MAC foundation primer is excellent, it has bits of glimmer in it to give your skin a nice glow which is NOT what you'd like for picture taking. In some cases shimmer can look like oil on camera.
Use a foundation like Studio Sculpt (MAC) which is specifically designed for pictures, or Cliniques Stay Matte foundation. Make sure eye shadows are also kept matte. Shimmer and frost are beautiful, but for cerain beauty shots are not what you need. Shadow is a bit more flexible however depending on what you're going for.
My last tip is to apply a bit more makeup than usual as the camera dumbs down all makeup! Clown makeup is a bit extreme but a good way to think about your application when taking pictures. If you have any questions feel free to email me! as a Naples Makeup Artist I am constantly asked about makeup and skin care and am happy to respond to help people :).

Naples Makeup Artist Talks About Secret Tip in New MAC line: Colour Craft
As a Naples Makeup Artist, I have to be very well versed on all of the new lines and hot new trends coming out. The reason I'm talking about this line in particular is because of how amazing the new colors and products are!
There are a ton of new glosses and lip products that go along with this line. Most of them are either lipsticks or Dazzle Glass (very sparkly) that are spins off of previous and permanent MAC lines. However there was a new product that I absolutely love in the lip glosses. Each gloss has a swirly effect and comes in five different colors.
My Absolute favorite secret weapon of this line are all of the face products. All of the skin products are great for your skin! The skin finish (that comes in all different colors so can be used as bronzer or powder) is mineralized, which lays on top of the skin instead of seeping into your pores! The colors are beautiful and each contains a little bit of shimmer to give a nice glow. These are shadows, blush, and powders/bronzers, necessities to a woman's look!
Finally, the tinted moisturizer is perhaps one of the best products from this line. Many other lines have this product, however MAC's not only moisturizes but gives great coverage! Any one can use it! there's no oil in it and it glides on beautifully. Many women who are used to wearing a lot of makeup shy away from it, but it is absolutely amazing! Try it!

STEP TWO: Apply Toner, (again for appropriate skin type).

STEP SEVEN: Bronzer and Blush of your choice, (bronzer may substitute for blush)

STEP SIX: Foundation, (blend with concealer) and USE BRUSH
STEP SEVEN: Bronzer and Blush of your choice, (bronzer may substitute for blush)
STEP EIGHT: Shadow (remember the three color method: light, medium and dark shadows)
STEP NINE: Liner on top and bottom or on top OR bottom... never just put on bottom as that could make your eyes look droopy and tired!
STEP TEN: Mascara on top and bottom lashes, up to three coats as needed
STEP ELEVEN: Lip Liner, lip stick and gloss or two of the three as needed for look and you're out the door!!

Naples Makeup Artist Talks on Applying Makeup: Natural Look for Photos
As a Naples makeup artist, sometimes we have to do crazy fashionista looks, and other times subtle, natural looks are in order. This particular model was shooting for her website as a musician/singer, and wanted a very natural, elegant look.
EYES:
In order to create a natural look but still make it show up on camera, for shadow I used a base, and then followed with a light brown from the inner corner of the lid to half way down the lid, leaving halfway in the middle of the eye to the outer corner open.
I then took a dark brown shadow (expresso) and placed it in the crease and in the open parts of the eye (outer corner) which gave the model a subtle, brown smokey eye. The same expresso shadow was used to lightly line the bottom of the eyes.
For liner, a dark brown paint pot liner was used on the top and a pencil was blended on the bottom to make it all come together. One coat of mascara was placed on top a bottom lashes.
LIPS & CHEEKS
For the cheeks I used Blunt MAC blush (a contour) with some blush baby on the cheek bone to give it a soft highlight.
By placing some neutral liner and tan colored gloss on the lips we finished off the nice natural look.
Being a Naples makeup artist isn't easy but it is definitely fun! These kinds of looks are just as challenging as some of the more extravagant ones but with practice can be easily conquered in less than 15 minutes! If you have any questions feel free to email me!

Naples Makeup Artist Talks About the Perfect Eye Makeup
As a Naples makeup artist I have been asked to give the "perfect eye" for each eye shape, given the close photography done by local photographers. In this particular picture, I was asked to make the eyes look absolutely perfect given the fact that it is such a close up shot. Here are some of the techniques I used:
First I took the same basic techniques I used for the 1930's look and applied it to the model's eyes. Instead of applying a blending brush and blending everything together, I brought out the liner way past the outer corner of the eyes and then took two different pigments and aligned them along the lid.
Gold and Green pigments (sparkle) were used to bring out the green in her eyes. Also the long eye liner accentuated her almond eye shape to give a beautiful Cleopatra eye!
Eventually I took a blending brush and slightly added a white/gray highlighter under the brow bone to make the look just a TAD softer. The eyes came out beautiful and especially glimmered in the cameras.
If you have any questions on how to do this look or how to do makeup in general please feel free to email me :)!

Naples Makeup Artist Talks On Applying Make Up: 1930's picture look
This look is very simple and easy to do if you have the right tools and techniques. This model came to me and told me that she didn't want to look 16 but also wanted to have a 1930's look. I chose the following to give her exactly what she wanted. When she left she was extremely happy!
EYES:
For the eyes I first layed on a shadow base to give the black its true color and make sure her makeup stayed on for the whole shoot. I then took a dark black shadow and placed it all over her lid and above the crease, finishing the corners off with an even darker shadow and again giving a cat like effect. I then blended a lighter white/gray shadow from the upper crease to the brow.
For a final touch, I went in and blended the entire eye with a blender eye brush. I then took a pencil brush and went underneath the eye with the darkest shadow.
For a liner I used a MAC smolder pencil for the waterline (blended into the shadow under the eye) and above the eye line which I also blended into the shadow. The end result was a nice, clean smokey eye.
LIPS & CHEEKS:
The lips took some work to make sure that the red didn't run. I took a Russian Red lipstick from MAC and partnered it with their Brick lip pencil. The end result was a beautiful, clean red lip with perfect shape!
For the cheeks I used Blunt MAC blush for a contour and above it I used blush baby to give it some highlights. This gave her a nice oval face shape. Contouring can always change the shape of the face and manipulate it how you'd like.

Naples Makeup Artist Talks on how to do makeup: Photo talk
In this image I was told to give the model a subtle "rocker chick" look. I used the following techniques and makeup to do the look:
EYES:
I took a smokey black shadow and applied it in a "cat like" shape all over the lid and above the crease of the eye, blending from the crease upwards with a brow highlighter. Underneath the eye I took the same shadow with a pencil brush and lined the bottom outside of the water line. To finish off the shadow I took a pink, sparkle pigment and dusted it over the black smokey shadow with a wet, lid brush. The pink came through as almost a see through sparkle effect.
I then took a eye kohl, (basic pencil liner) in smolder (deep black) and ran it on the top eye line while smudging it to blend with the rest of the black shadow. Underneath the eye I took that same pencil and worked it into the water line, also blending with the shadow already placed on the lower eye line.
Finally I finished with half lashes on the outer corners of the eye (fake lashes cut in half) to give her a winged out cat look, and brushed over them with some black, basic mascara (top and bottom lashes).
LIPS & CHEEKS:
For the lips I added MAC's Girl About Town lipstick (a bright pink with a lot of pigment) paired with a cranapple liner. I didn't use gloss because it might have dumbed down the pigment in the lipstick.
For cheeks I took a dark contour blush with an angle brush and went over the inner cheek. On the cheekbone I used a lighter, pink shade to match the pink look and rocker theme.
As a Naples makeup artist I'm asked to do these types of looks all of the time for the eyes! If you have any questions on how to recreate this look just email me :).

Naples Makeup Artist Talks on How to do Makeup: Makeover - Arielle Sturtz
As a Naples Makeup artist I meet a lot of interesting and diverse people. Arielle Sturtz, a good friend and client of mine, stopped by to get her makeup done for a hot night out on the town. Arielle happened to be going to a themed party and wanted to know how to do makeup for a dramatic, eye catching look.
First I put some MAC studio sculpt foundation all over with a 189 brush after proper skin care. Arielle has oily skin so I made sure to prep it with the right products. Afterwords I went over breakouts with some concealer and followed with a bronzer, blush and mineralized finishing powder.
For the eyes I went with a soft smokey eye and some nice fake lashes. I blended the brow bone with some dazzlelight MAC eye shadow and gave her a "cat eye" effect. Subtle but still appealing. When you do lashes you don't want to go too overboard with the shadow!
After everything i brushed her lips with some gloss and then asked her to give a testimonial about how I did on her makeup:
She was so excited and left feeling beautiful and happy! That is ALWAYS my goal when I do makeup or teach anyone how to do makeup. As a Naples makeup artist I LOVE answering questions and helping women feel beautiful about themselves so feel free to email me with any questions you have on how to do makeup or skin care!

Naples Makeup Artist Does Event for Naples Photographer, Richard Jencks
Yesterday and Today I, Jessica Perretti, a Naples makeup artist, worked on two different photo shoots for well known photographer - Richard Jencks. The looks were comprised of different riske photos mixed with high fashion and beauty looks.
The experience was definitely interesting and exciting. The biggest thing when doing a shoot is touch up and making sure that the skin looks MATTE unless otherwise noted by the photographer. Typically for high fashion I use different pigments (sold at MAC stores) and other glossy looking products on the eyes to really bring out a lot of color. For the "rocker chick" look I used MAC's "Girl about town" lip stick which gave her lips that rocker pop! Finally, on most of the models I used contouring blush and highlighter to make their face structure look flawless and even. All of the models were very pleased not only with their makeup but with the photos themselves. It was so interesting to get to watch the entire photo shoot take place.
There were many different looks done (Rocker, classic, 1930's look). The pictures will be available soon on model mayhem and I will post the link as soon as they come out :). Richard is a FANTASTIC photographer who is not only accurate and knowledgeable, but extremely creative! The shots looked amazing. I was so happy to be a part of the shoot and honored that Richard chose me to be the makeup artist.

Naples Makeup Artist Talks on Applying Make Up: Lashes
All of my clients constantly ask me, "show me how to put on lashes!" They have no clue where to start but always want to do them when they go out or have a special occasion. Many people don't want to hire a Naples makeup artist every time they want to put fake lashes on. Here's a few simple steps that show you exactly how to do lashes:
1. Remove the lashes from their case, slowly making sure you don't rip the lashes, and test them on your own eyes. (If too large, cut them to fit the size of your own lash line).
2. Take glue from the tube, using a tweezer if necessary, and place along the lash line of the fake lashes. (Make sure to get extra glue on the ends of the fake lashes).
3. Allow glue to dry for about 15 seconds until tacky, and grab lashes in the middle. Place on the middle of your own lash line and attach from the middle outwards.
4. Take tweezer or pointy tool and apply more glue where needed, glue should dry perfectly clear.
5. Place eye liner over top of lash line to hide any separations.
When applying make up the best tip I can give you from experience as a Naples makeup artist is to PRACTICE! Eventually you will get it down no matter how frustrating it can be to put lashes on :). If you have any questions on applying make up, lashes, or skin care just email me!

Naples Makeup Artist Talks on How to do Makeup: Prom Makeup/Tips
As a Naples makeup artist I have done a TON of proms. Normally when I ask the girls what they would like, the typical look is fake lashes, colors to match the dress for shadow and a nice, glossy lip. This is a GREAT look, however there are some prom tricks you can do to make this look and others look even better!
A lot of the girls I talk to go and get their nails done before prom, and then throw in a facial and their hair, then do their makeup. This is a huge mistake. NEVER get a facial the day of prom. The rule of facials is at least 24 hours before wearing any makeup. The esthetician has thoroughly gone in and removed all of the bacteria and inflamations from your skin, causing it to become sensitive and delicate. Makeup may look good for the time being, but can also cause harsh rashes and irritation that will be apparent by morning. Get your facial the day before!
Another great tip on how to do makeup for prom is to not only match the eye makeup to your dress, but to go along with your eye and face type. This can make girls look even better than they would have had they done the blue dress with blue eye shadow.
Mix it up and try some new things for your prom. Girls are always afraid to do any type of makeup outside of their comfort zone. EVERYONE is used to seeing the way you are, shock and awe them with a brand new look! ;). If you have any questions on how to do makeup or skin care feel free to email me, as a Naples makeup artist beauty is truly my passion and I love helping women feel beautiful on the inside and out!

Naples Makeup Artist Shows How to do Makeup : Brows
As a Naples makeup artist I constantly have to shape and pluck my clients brows. It shocks me how many women do not consider brows an important aspect of their daily routine! When clients ask me how to do makeup, I ALWAYS tell them to make sure their brows are neatly kept and to follow these three basic principles:
1. The inner start of your brows should be a nose length apart, each beginning where the inner corner of your eye ends.
2. To find the peak of where your brow should be, take a pencil and line it from the corner of your nose, through your pupil and through your brow. Wherever it is on your brow is where the peak of your brow SHOULD be.
3. Finally, take that same pencil and instead of going through the pupil, go from the corner of the nose through the outer corner of the eye up towards the brow. That's where your brow should END.
Using a stencil can be particularly useful. Anastasia Brows makes an excellent brow kit that every woman should have. Anastasia did brows in Hollywood for all of the stars for years. She decided to open her own shop that is now a national chain called Anastasia Brows. She is the absolute best and her kit should be owned by every woman! After all, what many women forget when is that brows can shape an entire face. If not done properly they can also ruin a face :(. If you have any questions on how to do makeup or basic skin care please email me! Because I am a Naples makeup artist I love answering questions and getting feedback from my clients :).

Naples Makeup Artist Shows you How to do Makeup: Clear, smooth skin
As a Naples makeup artist, I get asked constantly about skin care. What products should I use? Are the cheap ones as good as the expensive ones? How can I eliminate bacterial build up in my makeup? As I have mentioned in my previous blog on skin care and how to do makeup, there are certain products that match certain skin types. Sometimes the cheap drug store brand is the way to go, however when you buy the expensive products you get the absolute best ingredients.
If you are someone who tends to break out or is not getting the results that you want, one of the largest steps people tend to take for granted is CLEANING YOUR BRUSHES!!! I cannot stress enough how important it is to invest in some type of brush cleaner and clean your brushes every day! Bacterial build up can happen as fast as overnight, and the next day you are applying all of that build up onto your sensitive skin.
The best routine is to:
1. Clean your brushes after every use with a brush cleanser, MAC makes a good one that is just as cheap as drug stores
2. ONCE A WEEK, shampoo your brushes with moisturizing shampoo and allow to dry. Think of the brushes as the hair on your head, you wouldn't want to dry your hair out with regular bar soap would you?
It is a step that MUST be taken and simply takes less than 5 minutes. Staying hygenic can seriously improve the look and feel of skin. If you have any questions on how to do makeup or skin care, feel free to email me!

Naples Makeup Artist Tells Best Kept Secrets on Applying Make Up: Color Scheme
Many people tend to ask me what type of makeup to wear with which outfit, and in general what's the color scheme "rules" that should apply with applying make up. As a general rule, there are three types of color schemes:
- monochromatic - This type is when you have all of the same colors with different shades. For example, bright pink lips coupled with baby pink shadow and pinky blush would be monochromatic. Even putting clothes in with the mix is a good idea. A pink shirt would add nicely to the monochromatic look.
- complimentary - When you look on a color wheel, the colors opposite to each other are called complimentary colors. When applying makeup complimentary help to offset the other color. For example, if someone has purple bags under their eyes, a good color to offset the purple and make it look less baggy would be yellow. Often times I'll take a yellow shadow and dab it under the eyes before putting a concealer over it. For acne/pimples, green works wonderfully to offset red. Neutrogena sells a great and affordable green concealer stick :). As a Naples makeup artist I use a lot of concealers and I have to say that the green (paired with a skin-colored concealer over it) does the best job at covering problem areas.
- triadic - Triadic is defined as three colors that form a triangle on the color wheel. For example, yellow, orange and blue-violet would be three colors that you could blend in a mix to make a great triadic pattern. Same rules apply for triadic as for monochromatic.

Naples Makeup Artist teaches Appying Make Up: Secret Tips
As a Naples makeup artist, I have learned a few great tricks about applying make up, ALWAYS USE A PRIMER. Whether it's a foundation or eye makeup, never forget to apply primer. Primer mostly goes on after your moisturizer and before your foundation. I like to think about it as "painting your face." before you paint your house, you always put a primer on to make sure the color is true and that it does not fade. This is the same concept as putting on foundation or eye shadow.
The most important thing with foundation is making it stay the entire day. The best strategy for this is using a primer. Primers not only fill in lines and wrinkles, they also help prevent clogging, creasing and help the foundation/shadow stay much longer. Shadow primers are equally essential. As mentioned before in my applying make up blogs; they not only bring out the true colors of the shadows but they also help them stay longer and eliminate any creasing, which is a MAJOR plus!
It is SO important to use a primer before applying foundation or eye shadow. It can make or break your look. If you have any questions feel free to ask me through my email or twitter :).

Naples Makeup Artist Shows How to do Makeup: Basic three color shadow
As a Naples makeup artist I get asked all of the time what is the best way to do your eyes when you have a little more time. I constantly get asked how to do makeup with the three color shadow method: This involves a light shadow, medium shadow and dark shadow of the same color family. As mentioned before in the cat eye demonstration, there is a basic placement for each shadow color that makes any eye slightly pop and look more ravishing.
Let's say we're using shades of brown for a basic, prime look during the day. For example, let's take a chocolate, caramel and white shadow. Follow these steps:
1. Always use a shadow primer or skin colored cream shadow first all over the eye lid and slightly above the crease before applying shadow. This not only brings out the true colors of your shadows, but it also keeps the product fresh longer and eliminates that yucky crease look!
2. Take the caramel and place on the lid. JUST on the lid.
3. Place the white shadow just under the brow and slightly above the crease. This creates a gap between the caramel shadow on your lid and the white shadow under the brow (which is where you will place the darkest shadow, chocoloate).
4. Starting from the inside corner of the crease and blending outward, place the chocolate in the crease slightly past the outer corner of the eye.
5. Blend as needed
It's as simple as that! When I am asked how to do makeup, especially eye makeup, I tell people to practice with their specific eye shape and see what looks best for them. No eye is the same and there are different ways to do every shape. If you have any other questions on how to do makeup or simply need a Naples makeup artist, feel free to email me or follow me on twitter!

Naples Makeup Artist uncovers Hollywood Secret on Applying Make Up: Lips
Many women suffer from dry, cracked lips and can never get that defined, perfect plump colored lip that they desire. Due to weather, irritation or simply heredity lips tend to burn and crack and can become extremely sensitive to their environment. As a Naples Makeup Artist I have learned a few Hollywood tricks that will keep those peckers plump and supple. Here's a few tips for applying make up:
-It is always good practice to put vaseline on your lips before you go to bed at night and when you wake up in the morning. This will not keep your lips naturally supple, but will also fill in the lines and cracks as your body repairs itself at night.
-Always use some type of lip primer before you apply lip stick or gloss, (especially glosses with sparkles as the grittiness can irritate the skin). A primer will fill in those cracks and condition the lips for the color. They also allow the lip stick/gloss to last longer.
-Always use a liner!! If you are not a fan of the "liner look," then choose a liner that is the same color as the lip stick. It will cause a defined effect that makes your lip stick look flawless!
When asked about applying make up, especially lip stick, everyone is always concerned about time. Women always have a time issue."Why should I do all of that when I'm trying to get out the door?" they ask... Well it may take you an extra thirty seconds at MOST to add these few extra steps to your normal routine. AND it makes all the difference in your look :).
Applying make up is a job that is in constant need of practice. There are always new things to learn and new tricks to try. As a Naples makeup artist I am always learning the hottest trends for my clients. If you have ANY questions please feel free to email me!

Naples Makeup Artist talks on How to do makeup: Cat Eye Makeup
As a Naples makeup artist one of the most popular requests I get from my clients is a smokey, cat eye. One of the common myths is that smokey eyes can only be done in black, however you can do a smokey eye in any color you want! Normally when doing cat eyes you use multiple colors to create the "winged out" effect. The image on the right is a classic example of three different colored BLUES used to make a smokey eye. (the image to the left is much more dramatic but can be softened in black just the same way).
First: Pick out three shadows of the same color, but different shades, one very light, one medium and one dark (such as a blue white, teal and navy).
Second: Apply medium shade (teal) from lash line to lid, BELOW crease
Third: Apply light shade underneath the brow, creating a gap between the teal on the lid and light shadow in the brow.
Fourth: With a creased shadow brush, apply darker shade in the crease and "wing out" past the normal eye line. Bring the dark shade down to go on the outer corner of the lid and connect for a "cat like" shape. (see image on right above) blend as necessary.
When asked how to do makeup I always say one specific thing: PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! There is no eye or face shape alike so it is so important that you find a technique that works for you and practice it! If you have any questions on how to do makeup or skin care feel free to email me or follow me on twitter! I am always happy to answer any questions :).

Naples Makeup Artist talks talks on Applying Make Up : Blush
Blush application may seems like an easy thing, but many women struggle to blend their blush in the proper way. When applying make up with the wrong technique, it can sometimes look cakey or and jagged with blush. As a Naples Makeup Artist I have done many womens' makeup and I can tell you it is all done in the exact same way when it comes to blush: BLENDING FROM THE HAIRLINE FORWARD.
Not only does this technique provide contouring as well as highlighting (with a darker and lighter colored blush of course) but it also eliminates all of the excess product that you get if you go the opposite way. If you go from the cheek towards the hairline when applying make up such as blush, it becomes much more difficult to blend. Until you become an expert, make SURE to take your blush brush and move it from the hairline forward.
Lastly, it is always good to use two different colors when applying blush. A darker color for your contour and a lighter one brushed on top for your highlighting (as mentioned above). If you have an angled blush brush (recommended), use the slanted edge for the darker contour and the side to brush highlighter along the cheek bone. Many women are intimidated by applying make up, but it is simple once you get the hang of it! If you have any questions feel free to email me! Being a Naples makeup artist I love answering questions and helping women feel beautiful on the inside and the out!

Naples Makeup Artist talks about Applying Make Up: Skin Care
Before applying make up, it is essential that the right skin care preps your face. With absolutely no excuses, every morning you should wash, tone and moisturize your skin. If you plan on going out and wearing the foundation all day, use a primer after your moisturizer and before your makeup.
Sometimes it is difficult to know which skin care works best for which skin type. As I've mentioned in my previous blogs on applying make up, there are four basic skin types:
- dry
- oily
- combination
- normal
Before applying make up on dry skin, use a cream cleanser followed by a moisturizing toner (Kiels makes a great one) and then a moisture rich moisturizer.
For oily skin, pretty standard skin care would include a gel cleanser, clarifying toner and oil control moisturizer.
However, what most people with oily skin don't realize is that washing your face with oil based cleansers IF THE OIL IS A HIGH GRADE, (such as philosophy's purity face wash) can be a GOOD thing! Many men and women tend to strip their face of oil when they have oily skin, leaving it dry at first. The glands are sent a signal that the face is dry and need to produce more oil, so they quickly produce TOO MUCH oil, resulting in a greasy complexion.
Combination is tricky, in the T zone use an oil control moisturizer, but on the outer areas of the face use a much richer moisturizer to remove the dry skin cells.
Finally, normal skin does not need much help ;). Choose a cream cleanser followed by a basic toner with aloe or soothing ingredients like caffeine (yes caffeine is soothing when placed on the skin!) Finally end with a moisturizer for all skin types.
If you have any questions as to what type of skin you have or on applying make up, please feel free to email me :). As a Naples makeup artist I love making people feel beautiful about themselves!

Naples Makeup Aritst Teaches You How to do Makeup on the Go!
There are basically four essential steps for an on the go woman:
-Shadow
-Mascara
-Blush
-Gloss
I get asked constantly about how to do makeup for an "on the go" mom or basically any woman who feels like she's constantly rushed and doesn't have time for her appearance. The simple fact is that appearance and first impressions are SO important, and with this simple, four step rule of applying make up you can be ready and out the door in less than 5 minutes!
STEP ONE:
- Use a light shadow, preferably frost (matte shadows are harder to blend) and place with brush from the lid to slightly above the crease.
Light shadows are always a good choice for daytime: they open up the eyes and make the skin appear brighter ::
- Take your favorite mascara and lightly brush two coats on top and bottom lashes
- Use Angled Blush Brush and apply from hairline forward a light but noticeable blush (peaches and bronzers work great for day)
- Throw on a clear or tinted gloss and you're ready to go!!

Naples Makeup Artist talks on How to do Makeup: Foundation
One of the hardest concepts to grasp is the principle of foundation and how to do makeup the right way for your skin type. The most common skin types are dry, oily, normal and combination. A fellow Naples makeup artist and artist to the stars revealed her biggest secret to me for applying foundation on a job we did a few months ago: "Always use a brush, never a sponge, and choose which specific brush based on desired coverage. The harder the bristles, the fuller the coverage, the softer the bristle, the more airbrushed and light coverage look. When it comes to skin, figure out which skin type you have and prep it accordingly for foundation ALWAYS with a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and primer if needed."
After listening to her advice, I found that one of my absolute favorite brushes for foundation is the MAC 189 brush, (first brush shown) which is great for concealer and the areas needed for better coverage. My second favorite is the MAC 187 (Second shown) because it glides on foundation giving it an airbrushed look without sucking up all of your product like a sponge.
When asked how to do makeup by my clients, I always give them these helpful tips for the perfect look. :)

Naples Makeup Artist talks about Applying Make Up, (Eyes & Eye Shape)
As a Naples Makeup Artist I get to talk about applying make up all of the time! One of the most frequently asked questions is how to apply eye make up according to eye shape. The largest tip that I can give you is that before applying make up learn WHAT KIND OF EYE SHAPE YOU HAVE, then do the research. It is so important to know about your features before attempting to accentuate them. If you don't know the shape, how do you know the proper technique? There are typically 7 types of eye shapes:
-Almond- can wear almost any look, typical eye shape
-Asian - no crease, lighter colors all over lid
-Wide Set - bring the shading to the inner corner of the eye and lighter towards outer corner
-Close Set - bring shading to the outer corner and lighter to inner
-Deep Set Crease - lighter colors on lid, darker above crease towards brow
-Pronounced - smokey eyes work best to offset the "pop out" effect
-Downward - bring the darker shadow to the outer corner and angle upwards, along with liner
Applying make up can be easy if you just get the basics! Email me or message me on twitter with any questions, (either make up or skincare :) ). I would be happy to answer any makeup 911's!! :)
